In 2006 Xu Zhen planned a trip. In 18 days he and three others drove an off-road vehicle around China’s border regions. Using remote-controlled toy tanks, airplanes, and warships, he tried to “invade” Russia, Mongolia, and Myanmar. In exhibitions, his long-distance journey is often presented as a multimedia installation, including video, documentary photographs, his vehicle, toys, and other items used on the trip.
