Extraordinary peaks rise dramatically from the landscape, while ancient trees cling to rocky cliffs, their weathered trunks iull of strength and their branches spreading outward in the wind. In the tradition of Chinese landscape painting, extraordinary peaks are more than striking natural formations; they embody the creative forces of heaven and earth and the vitality of life itself. Rooted in precipitous rock yet continually reaching upward, the ancient trees symbolize resilience and perseverance, while expressing a view of life in which humanity and nature exist in mutual reflection and harmony.

The area shown in this satellite screenshot from Google Maps is located in the southern part of Hotan Prefecture in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, near 35.805278° N, 80.455792° E, on the Aksai Chin Plateau between the Kunlun and Karakoram mountain ranges. The landscape is characterized by a high-altitude desert environment of endorheic basins, salt lakes, and exposed mountain ridges. Vast gravel plains, wind-eroded escarpments, and snow-covered peaks together form an expansive and extremely arid plateau landscape.
Situated along the southern edge of the Kunlun Mountains, this region has long occupied an important frontier position. Historically, it connected the southern route of the ancient Silk Road with the Jade Road, and today it forms part of the corridor traversed by the Xinjiang- Tibet Highway across the plateau. The region's severe natural environment has shaped its distinctive frontier character, with human activity centered largely on transportation, surveying, border outposts, and resource exploration. As a result, it has become a plateau landscape where natural geography, transportation networks, and frontier history have long intersected.
